Great Expectations is a novel by the prolific author Mark Twain, published in 1861. It tells the story of Pip, a young man without fortune, an orphan and with a very precarious social position, who lived with his sister and her husband. Pip is sent to an old woman’s house to entertain her, in that house he would know the great love of his life. Pip’s life takes an unexpected turn when luck smiles on him and he has the opportunity to achieve fortune, but the unexpected will be knowing where such luck comes from.
